Search Engines

AltaVista:  A comprehensive database.  Good for locating images and video clips.

Librarians' Index to the Internet:  A well organized point of access for reliable, trustworthy, librarian-selected Internet resources.

AlltheWeb: One of the largest and freshest indices with the most powerful search features that allow anyone to find anything faster.  The index (provided by Yahoo!) includes web pages, PDF and MS Word files.  Good for music and video clips.

Teoma: This site adds a new dimension and level of authority to search results through its breakthrough approach, known as Subject-Specific Popularity.

Google: A search engine that makes heavy use of link popularity as a primary way to rank web sites. This can be especially helpful in finding good sites in response to general searches.

Yahoo!:  One of the first and easiest to use; it has connections to other major engines.
